Retired Sheriff, Cuyahoga County, Ohio
A 30 year veteran of law enforcement including as Sheriff of Ohio’s largest county, Police Cheif of the suburb of Bedford, and a 20 year patrolman, Bob Reid is an expereinced law enforcement officer who graduated from the FBI’s Academy.Reid served his country after graduation from Mayfield, Ohio High School and served in Ohio Army National Guard, 107th Armed Cavalry, where he was honorably discharged in 1969. He received an associates degree in arts from Cuyahoga Community College in 1971 and in 1972 graduated from Cleveland State University with a BBA in Management.
Robert Reid began his law enforcement career by becoming a Patrolman in the City of Bedford, Ohio in 1975 and rose to the Rank of Chief in 1989. He received extensvie training in the Drug Enforcement Supervisors School, Washington, D.C. as well as the FBI Academy. Reid was well known for innovative pólice strategy and later became City Manager and Safety Director for Bedford from 2000-2009. In 2009, Reid was appointed Sheriff of Cuyahoga County, and provided leadership to turn a dysfunctional and scandal plagued operation into a well functioning law enforcement unit with high morale.
Among Reid’s accomplishments, including the historic turn around of the Cuyahoga County Ohio Sheriff’s Department include: Regional Swat Team, President of the Fraternal Order of Police, George Murray Lodge, Partolman of the Year Award 1979, established the Hostage Negotiation Team, ,established SEAL Narcotics Task Force, Executive Board of the Cuyahoga County Chiefs of Police, President Cuyahoga County Chief of Police Association, Executive Board, Cuyahoga County Mayors/Managers Association.
