The Empowered Family: Addiction Programming for Parents, Family, Friends, and Community
The addicted person is not alone. Parents, family, and community can be saviors, ignore the behavior, or enablers. This dynamic and honest program presented by Doctors Parran and Adelman based on their decades of treatment will open the eyes of others around the person who is addicted to drugs or alcohol and allow them to truly help the person. This is a powerful presentation that even those who do not have addiction problems should see.
  Lessons
Module 1: What is Substance Abuse?
This introductory lesson for families and friends of substance abusers allows you to understand what happens to people when they have chosen to abuse substances including drugs and alcohol. It goes through what each abused product and how the mind and body reacts to those products. The program is presented by medical experts who have seen thousands of patients and impart their knowledge to you about how products can go from being used appropriately, and then what leads to abuse. Abuse means that the abuse can stop, and that a person can stop abusing, but the program will also point out how abuse turns into addiction, a far more difficult problem to solve. It also will walk you through how to safely help your loved ones not abuse drugs and alcohol.

Module 2: What is Addictive Disease?
What starts out as abuse, something that can be controlled, can lead to addiction, something that cannot be controlled and sprials into deep problems that almost always never ends well. This very straight forward and honest presentation talks about how people can move from abuse to addiction, the signs, the major negative impact that addiction has on you and all those that interact with you. However, the program will also show ways that you can help your loved ones overcome and be better than addiction, the methods that you can use to help them get off that slippery slope and get back on a healthy and clean path in life. This lesson can save lives, and the medical professionals who present it to you have saved many lives when their advice has been followed.
